Mental health and suicide prevention

It’s currently Mental Health Awareness Week and this year the theme is “Movement: moving more for your mental health”. This theme deeply resonates with me as the gym has always been an outlet for me while battling my own mental health issues. That being the case, I have decided to use my upcoming powerlifting competition as an opportunity to raise funds for the Movember Foundation and will be donating the USD equivalent of my total to the charity. I have also set up a page for others that wish to donate (link in bio). For those unaware, the Movember Foundation is a charity which focuses on the biggest health issues affecting men, in particular mental health and suicide prevention.

In addition to raising funds, over the coming weeks I will be releasing a series of short videos which my therapist, Dr. Gurveen Ranger (@dr_veeranger), and I have put together as a resource for those navigating their own mental health journeys. I hope that, by pairing Dr. Gurveen’s clinical expertise and my personal experiences, we may be able to reach one or more people who need support but don’t quite know how to go about getting it.

Finally, if you are reading this and feel like you need support, just know that help is always available and that it’s okay not to be okay. If there’s one thing the last few months have taught me, it’s that sometimes we just need to stay in the game long enough to see the tables turn.
